Gti front grill
« on: December 20, 2015, 03:56:26 pm »
Just had a little look around mine today to see what's what, and have noticed there are no screws nr the number plate that secure it. I can see the holes BUT I can't see how the screws are secured. Do they use those metal clips?

On the top I can see that on either side of the bonnet latch there are retaining clips that look broken and have been replace by screws. I assume the 2 that should be by the number plate and the 2 outer screws have been self tapped to secure and not using the pre existing holes. Again, I cant see how these screws are secured into the correct holes?

Just trying tidy up all the previous owners bodges.

Pics would great so I got an idea how they fit. Or maybe a nut and bolt job.

There are 4 screws for the stock grill:

2 in the top, torx fitting
2 at the bottom, securing into metal retaining clips.

The grill also uses tabs to clip into place for extra securing. Hope this info helps mate.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

They are called spire speed fasteners and there should be two behind the no plate to secure the lower part of the grill in.

2 x philips screws lower and 2 x torx t25 I think it was for the top.

Thanks for replies. I can't see how the top screws are retained as there is just a hole.

Top is plastic thread and needs replacing with rivnuts  I'm sure I used 5mm ones with dome headed screws( I have some spare). Stainless will be best
Tricky if you have fat fingers but once done its a long term fix
