ESP acting strange after battery disconnection

So as the title the ESP has been acting strange after disconnecting the battery.

It sometimes doesn't respond to pressing the button. It also came on for five seconds or so without pressing the button under.normal driving conditions

Not sure if this is how it is normally, but this pic shows the traction control on a.k.a without pressing the button. It seems the "off" bit of the button is partially illuminated. I thought it would be conpletely off untill ypu press it and it illuminates the same orange as the "ESP"

Have you tried pressing and holding it for a good 5-10 seconds? From my own experience you need to hold it down for a short while for it to fully engage or disengage the system.

Failing that, default robotic answer of fault scan.

Ah yes, the mk5 was easier to work with. Quick question, what did you work on that required the battery removed?

Sorry mate, did I say I removed the battery?   

I think your talking about another thread where peskyjones was removing his sears to hoover the carpet???

Or was it because I had replaced my gearbox mounting and had to remove battery and the holding tray to get to the mounting bolts?.

I use the term "removed" for any situation where the power to the car has been removed, whether the battery is physically taken out the car doesn't matter to me, but then I have a strange way of thinking!

Pesky, also try blasting your ABS sensors with some high pressure air as well as the back of the hubs, if there's any dirt getting in the way it may be causing the car to think something's wrong with the ESP system.

That's a good idea blasting the rear of the hubs with compressed air.

I regularly blast my brakes with air now, the amount of build up it removes is quite shocking to be honest, all helps to keep things working properly. Even a bit of alloy wheel cleaner to the back of the hubs and a blast with some water wouldn't hurt either, just to further help clear any build up in the hubs.
