Here's a question for people to think over...

If you look at a Subaru Impreza WRX intake, it uses the bonnet scoop straight into a filter, which is in a similar location on the mk5/6 Golf GTI engine. Is it, in theory, possible to copy this design over to the Golf platform for a short-to-turbo ram-air intake (so to speak)?

If so, why does no-one do it? What draw backs does it have?

The scoop feeds air to an intercooler on the top of the engine. I guess it would work but would look extremely odd in my opinion

It's an inter cooler scoop as above, if it was a direct feed to an air era you'd soon have a hydro locked engine.

Having the inter cooler on top of the block reduces the length of charge pipe that needs charging thus reducing lag, it has its draw backs like heat soak

had one on my reno gt turbo but it looked a black beast with the registration E41DVL evil or devil  stupid me was young and forgot to keep the reg

Ah, I see, didn't realise the intercooler was top mounted on an Impreza. Assuming that because the 2.0 TFSI is a straight 4 cylinder there's little room above it for a decent set up. Was a random thought I had last night while bored, may continue to look into some sort of bonnet based ram-air feed though as it could be fun to learn.
