Service Indicator comes on every month even after being reset.

Hi,

I have a Mkv Golf gti 2005. The car has been serviced at the correct intervals since being purchased. In the last 2 years the service light continuously comes on. I have been told that there is an oil quality sensor and this could be faulty. Does anyone know what part this sensor is?

I believe that the "oil quality" sensor is simply a temperature sensor, used in conjunction with other ECU data to estimate when oil change is due when set to "long-life" service intervals
Have you tried setting it to 1 year, 10,000 mile fixed service intervals?

Never heard of an oil quality sensor 

Have heard of a faulty sensor though 

How do you reset the oil sensor?.

You can reset service interval to fixed. ECU then doesn't try to estimate oil quality.

On the VAG platform for the Mk5 the ECU can count the number times the bonnet is opened between servicing. It apparently uses this info to assume an oil level check has taken place.

Get the service interval changed to annual/fixed - problem solved

No. Can be done without VCDS as follows. Turn off ignition. Press & hold trip reset "0.0" button on clocks. Turn on ignition - no need to start car. Release "0.0" button. Press the clock setting minute button "m".  Service interval is now set to 10000 mile/ 1 year.

Does anyone know if the service indicator works on mileage as my last oil serve was a year ago now and I've not replaced the oil buy have the parts ready to replace it this weekend.
Only done 3.5k mile in the whole of this year.
