OEM intake broken... replace or alternative?
« on: December 22, 2015, 12:13:38 pm »
so my OEM intake was rubbing and squeaking like a rodent trapped under the bonnet and my mechanic (brother!) took the drastic move to remove the whole thing.

i'm running with a pipercross dry panel filter and wondered what people are recommending for replacements or whether to go just for a new OEM one?

quite up for adding a bit of extra noise though

Don't start me off

I have a neuspeed P-flo pipe and Ramair filter sitting in the for sale section lol

People go for the ramair kit. some go for the IGT and so forth.

i know mate, it seems like there's too many choices but some aren't worth bothering with. that's why i was thinking of sticking with the OEM ugly box.

what have you got fitted at the moment then?

I've fitted my ugly box back on as the Neuspeed doesn't like an unmapped car. Sounds great  :jumping: but not performing well with my car.  :sad1:

Maybe someday I'll be able to say yes to a filter kit but for now it's on hold.

I had a revo - went back to stock OEM. Too much noise for my liking in the end (even though most of the time I have the stereo on). Sometimes it's a nice noise. But the deciding factor was the Mrs didn't get on with it so had to go  :signLOL:

I love the noise  :jumping: :jumpmove: :signLOL: the louder thr better. One of my reno 5's had a cheap modified BOV and that was not as loud as the filter I had in it.  :rolleye:

I'd say the reason behind sticking to oem is the filters don't suit our cars without at least minimum stage 1

I'm going to get a new oem intake for now and then work out what to do long term.

Here's a question though, the intake looks like it's made of 2 parts as there are 2 part numbers. 1 part is fine (the one that connects to the engine cover) but the other part is broken and I think I remember someone saying this has a metal bracket on it (that's the bit that's broken). If I order the plastic part that's broken does it come with the metal bit? I asked the guy in the vw garage and he didn't know!!

Anyone else know?!
