PARTS REQUIRED FOR SERVICE - IS THIS EXPENSIVE?

Got my major service done today by Autovolks.

The following have come up... Just wanted to know whether this was a reasonable price
The things I asked them to look for was - oil burning too quick, engine light came on after them fixing it around 8 months ago, and squeaky brakes again brand new brakes and pads were put on around 8 months ago by previous owner

After the service I have been quoted the following:

-   Both front shock absorbers leaking £277.20
-   Front wishbone lower rear console bushes splitting £192.43
-   Rear brake disc’s and pads and OSR caliper faulty £297.74
-   Purge valve and engine breather (engine light on, fault codes 01089 evap system purge flow and 08583 fuel trim bank 1, requires evap purge valve and engine breather) £128.76

Shocks and brakes seem quite expensive, I get trade prices but shocks £35 each and all four discs and pads for around £55 the lot

I am not sure they are a VW Specialist so went to them as they are not too far from where I live...

I have a Golf GTI MK5 3DOOR DSG... Had a feeling it was high, just got home and my emission light has gone so will see what happens in the morning

Not too sure about the aftermarket or VW parts presuming VW...

Anyone recommend any decent dealers in the Birmingham area / West midlands... always found it a struggle to find someone reliable

I got my charcoal canister and breather pipe from TPS for £84 all in. 3 minute job as well!

Just realised you only got the N80 purge valve and the breather pipe. Which is £40 from TPS all in!

All include supply and fit

That's the one - they say it's trade only, but if you just talk to them they're normally reasonable.

£14 a corner for discs and pads  :surprised: tell where and surely not genuine?

All standard stuff on the GTI.  Good excuse to fit Audi S3 or Whiteline console bushes.

If the dampers are just sweating a little oil, personally I'd leave them for now.  If they are full on gushing oil out and the car feels horrible to drive, then by all means get them done for safety if nothing else.  It's just that a lot of places will say a damper is completely knackered because of a very slight damp patch of oil. 

Rear calipers, yeah common.  Had to replace both of mine due to complete seizure.  Still the same crap design that first appeared on the MK2!!
