Dash lights over 60mph. [Video Included]
« on: December 20, 2015, 12:00:05 am »
Here is a link to the video where I explain what is happening

Basically, ABS, ESP and tyre pressure lights come on as soon as you go over 60mph. If you turn the car on/off again the lights are out until you go over 60mph again. Something to do with the ABS Pump or Sensor? Not got the money to get it put into Volkswagen at the moment with it being Christmas time and all. Any ideas what it could be? Cheers :happy2:

Hi mate

I don't, no. My uncle does who lives in England, going to go down after Christmas and get it plugged in see what's happening. Mind you, driving down to England would probably cost about the same as taking it to VW. Car guzzles petrol

Cheaper to buy yourself a vcds cable matey  :P I think my gti  drinks more than my old remapped tt 265bhp  :signLOL:

Your in Ireland?.

ps I'm guessing a wheel speed sensor at fault here but better to find out which one with vcds and then your 100%  :happy2:

VCDS copy from china, £20  and you can DIY it. Perfect for personal use. A generic code reader or OBD2 device is no good as they provide basic engine info only, need something VAG specific
TFSI... Revo Stage 2+... . WMI.... VCDS HEX + CAN, MPPS, VAG Commander & VAG tacho - South Wales

As mentioned best to plug it in and see what error codes come up but does look like a sensor fault

The 60mph thing is strange... defo. not happening below that?

When the lights come on, what's the car drive like?  Do you have ABS? (Does the car skid without the ABS pushing back at you)
I know you won't have ESP or Traction Control; but you may still have ABS.

Have you checked the VCDS register on here?  There might be someone local to you, who'll give your car a quick scan.

The ABS switch fault won't cancel on a simple ignition reset.

My guess is wheel speed/hub sensor on the way out, basically not reading the road speed correctly, which throws the other systems out of sync.  Strange though, because it usually requires a re-calibration before it resets...

had this fault three times on my old gti, once it was a front abs sensor and both other times a rear wheel bearing due to the abs pick up ring being damaged

Yeah, it's usually the reluctor ring integral to the hub, had this on mine too.

The ABS switch problem is whole different kettle of fish, but there's a fix kit for it now, did mine for under 100 quid!!

@ColinMKV when you get it scanned and returns a duff sensor, it will specify the wheel, but won't tell you whether its the hub/reluctor ring or the sensor... Best way to check, is to clear the fault and rescan, if it returns immediately it's the sensor... If it returns when driving, it'll be the hub/reluctor ring.

Any updates @ColinMKV ?  I'm intrigued what a scan will reveal, did you check the register?
