Door card clips
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:25:35 pm »
Hi all,

Firstly - sorry, I couldn't find this by searching, but I'm just looking for some help with the door card clips.

I had the passenger door card trim off mine today for the first time in my ownership and was pretty disappointed to see the clips seem to be one use items. Is this really true? They expand after being pushed into place?
I used all the new ones I bought as spares, but was hoping the used clips could be recycled somehow.

I like the way the door comes apart as quickly as on my old mkiv, but don't like the mk5 clips - I can't believe they would be one use, but they seem to be?!

Can anyone advise? I have the drivers door to do, and no spare clips left now...

Thank-you - I'll retrieve the ones I chucked in the bin and have a go at resetting them.

Much appreciated  :drinking: !

As above - they are low enough cost I tend to replace when I take the door cards off. I think each card has six clips so for all cards you'd need 24 in total. I did reuse some when I first took a card off but was never so sure how strong they were after being reset.
These are the ones I get, don't think they are genuine but they do the job easily as well  :happy2:

And these come in handy in case the holders of those clips have become brittle and shatter when the card has been removed. I may have smashed a few in my time  :sad1:
Cut of the old smashed white clip from the card making sure to leave as much of the positioning tag (you'll see what I mean when you do it, or find me "Mateyguv" on Instagram to see pics) Then take the black clip out of this linked item and hot glue the new white part in. Then use the above clips as usual

Thanks Matey - I'll get some of these ordered up as I have the drivers door to do next. I'll need some spares with the audio mods and mirror swap I want to do, if I can ever find the correct drivers side module for folding mirrors...!

I went to order some from my local dealer when I was in getting another few bits as I plan on changing the door handle switches, they are multi use, however I bought some just incase they broke, think they were like 80p each.
