Just a quick couple of questions.......
« on: January 03, 2010, 04:45:17 pm »
About my RNS510 and shortly to have S3 brakes;

I'm sure I've seen a link to an online set of instructions for the RNS510, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, it would br greatly appreciated.

And I have a full set of S3 brakes(front and rear) coming this week, and have been looking for an online fitting guide, but can't find one, as I'm sure there are some modifications to fit the rears, and certain parts required to fit the fronts- new hoses??  One of my techs will be fitting them, but it's nice to have a heads up. Again any help much appreciated. :happy2:

You need brakelines front+ little bracket to hold the brakeline by the caliper and dustshields front, the rear dustshield only needs a slight bend inwards.
I assume that you have calipers, pads, discs and carriers front and rear.
I have p/n at home if you want them, and maybe also a DIY, but it's straight forward, replace what you remove  :happy2:

Over the top mod list ;o)

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Sorry, slight misunderstanding.  I have it all fitted and working, just need instructions on how to use it, I've worked out most things, but it's always nice to know more.

Thanks, not sure what I have got till they turn up. Part numbers and DIY would be really handy though.

Cheers

Got them.  The brakes finally turned up today, however the Discs are not perfect so have ordered new discs and pads all round.

A couple more questions;  Are the R32 brakes the same as the S3?  because if I decide to keep them the same colour, can I swap the retaining clip so it doesn't say S3??

And am I right in saying, when fitting the fronts, all I need is S3 hoses, the bracket (is this the one that fits on the caliper that the small metal hoses sits by), and the S3 dust covers for the back?

Many thanks in advance

And I should have my new discs etc by tuesday, and am aiming to give a full write up showing the install, as soon as I have them.

GTI  front Brake hose fit..

S3/R32 Front  Brake hose fit showing the small bracket and the small connection pipe.. (circled - not my pic)

The other option is to go with a braided hose/banjo bolt arrangement that removes the requirement for the small connection pipe..  (again not my pic)  The Braided hose could also be fed through the bracket and a rubber grommet used, or secured using a P clip, secured to the caliper using the threaded hole left (far left bolt in the pic)..  Talk to Dave B 1970 from this forum for further advice and hose availability.

Hope that helps..

I think you could fit the R32 clips, but why not just spray yours to the required colour?

Excellent stuff, I think I will just go the S3 hoses route, as I already have the brakcets, and the hoses are only a tenner each.  Anyone have any idea what it would be to powdercoat and paint the housings in red?

The Front Housings and carriers cost me £40 plus VAT to get done at my local coaters (good job done too).  The whole assembly just unbolts from the Piston carrier, so there is no need to break into the piston/piston seals.

The rears are a bit more of a task, as if you want them doing properly, you make have to strip down the seals etc, chat to Dave B for more advice.

Where are you based?

Sunny Bognor Regis.  I have found a powder coaters just round the corner from me, just never used him.  Did your price include shot blasting or acid dipping first?  And what about the non painted areas, ie, where the pads slide etc?

 :happy2:

But I think I will just keep them black and change the clips to the R32 items

The Calipers were chemically stripped first and then coated.  You can get gloss, satin, or matt coatings.  I just left mine black, looked good on a Steel grey car.
