Led number plate lights
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:34:56 pm »
Hi, got Led bulbs in now, which don't seem to last very long...
I've seen led replacement units, are they any good?
What are you guys using/fitting? Any recommendations?

Cheers

Cheers for that, looks like what I have now... Only lasted 6 months... Works then starts flashing on goes off...

Check ebay item 321639963682

Ive used these style ones for around 3 years and no issues. Plus they brighter than just the bulbs

Cheers, are the VW genuine ones a plug and play? No coding/error codes on the mk5? Mines a 2007 which has the festoon type bulbs... Cheers

I installed these before Christmas, nice colour fits well with the car gives it a modern look without being to bright etc. Plug and play no errors so far.

Hmm that's interesting...I've looking at those, see link below...are they the same? The seller did not know if they'd fit/work without errors...!
The way I understand the plate lights on the mk 5 GTi is there are two different types, perhaps depending on the year of your car? Mine is a 2007, it has the festoon type replacement bulbs in them, and I believe some have a complete sealed unit? perhaps earlier mk5?

Any ideas?

Hey Guys,
Ordered those ones (from get4less on ebay) for my 56 plate. They come on for a couple of seconds then go out. I say 'they'. Unfortunately I could only fit one side as the previous owner had at one point fitted an all in one reversing camera/light which seemed to be soldered direct from what I could see. So no plug to just detach. And I don't fancy taking the bumper off to see what's going on. So I may just replace the bulbs after all and hope they're not too bright. Unless anyone has any suggestions?

it'll be because there not canbus error free.  the low resistance of the LED's makes the car think theres a fault in the circuit and shuts it off for protection.  you either need canbus error free bulbs or fit resistors
