glad they found something , hopefully a straight forward and not to expensive repair. in bristol you have bristol gearbox centre who i have seen mentioned in various dsg related threads - which is handy!

Yeah I'm glad they found something. It's the worst where there is clearly a fault that can't be found like a squealing I currently have at low speeds!

Yeah they have brilliant reviews and have free diagnosis so I'm going over there today.

Get them to log into the module and monitor the actual sensor (G182) readings if they have access to vcds/vagcom. Might help in seeing if the sensor is completely buggered or maybe the wiring connector.

Ok thanks I will ask them to do that. Hopefully it's just the wiring connector!

So they've just told me that they believe it's the mechatronic unit :/

As an update for the above...when I first told them I had a DSG service they told me you should never change the oil on the DSG as it can clean all the crap off the old components causing damage.

The fault code didn't come up when they plugged it in and they are not convinced it is the speed sensor. They also said a basic reset could work but may not. Failing this they would recondition the valve body on the mechatronic unit.

Looks like I got some thinking to do!

Well after them saying you should never change the oil you should avoid them like the plague.

I knew they would say it's the mechatronic unit as one garage told me that without even looking at the car. Just such an easy thing to blame. And replacing that at a hefty cost from a "guess" would be a costly error.

And if the code wasn't there when they scanned it maybe it's an intermittent fault and has cleared. The faults have something called a reset counter which means each time the fault doesn't occur it clears back down to zero from a max of 255.

Keep an eye on it and maybe get a local user to scan in a few days to see if the code comes back.

Avoid the dsg service like the plague  :surprised: dodgy garage lol

Sorry typo above ^^

Although the fault code doesn't come up it still judders so the problem is still there.

I'm going for a DSG factory reset but with the vw Indy that i usually go to. Despite the good reviews I'm going to avoid the DSG 'specialists'. Failing that it looks like I may have to recondition the valve bodies on mechatronics.

It's probably a solder connection come loose on the mechatronics board as it is a common problem.

What do you mean juddering? When does it do that?

Idle/gear change/switching from P to D/letting off the brake and creeping?

It's normal to get a slight bit of judder when you let off the brake and it pulls away, only slight though.

There's a single judder when I change up through the gears only when my foot is to the floor. This can sometimes be quite violent. Casual driving in D is fine and so are downshifts. Only seems to happen in manual mode.

Yeah that's a more accurate way of describing it, almost like it's snatching the gears. But like I said only happens when accelerating hard and usually only in manual mode.
