selling car timing belt and water pump

Hi im unfortunately selling my car very soon and the timing belt is due in 6 months, was wondering whether I should do it before I sell it? However I feel I wont get this back when I price the car to sell.

If it's way past needing doing then the new buyer will knock off a few hundred quid so you neither win or lose. I'd just knock the money off if you agree on a price as it saves you hassle.

It's going cost about £400 at an Indy, price it accordingly and say in the ad it needs doing or get it done. Either way, it's part of the maintenance schedule so it's not going to be recovered. You could see if knocking £200 of the price by way of a 50% contribution would be acceptable to a buyer.
These days there aren't many people that fail to ask when it's due.

Agree with the other guys, even a complete novice to car buying is going to ask about the timing belt even if they are unsure what it is, as it is what everyone asks for. You are going to lose out one way or another.

On the other side, buyers always expect to knock something off so leaving it allows them that discount.

Personally, I would do it knowing that you also have it done if you decide to keep the car or it takes an age to sell. I had my ED30 done early then sold it, cars like these have more appeal with proactive maintenance. I got a genuine kit, water pump and coolant for £324 fitted from an indy.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I agree with this. It also speaks volumes about the owner.
My other favourite thing is to check the tyres looking a full set of quality rubber from the same manufacturer. Not a bargaining tool but an indicator about the owner.
