I wouldn't service it before selling, explain it needs a service and expect them to take the money off.  They will most likely want money off even if you do the service, so only you will lose out.  This is assuming the car has FSH and you're not over time/mileage by leaving it.

Oil change ~130quid
Brake Fluid ~60
Cam folower 35quid (DIY this.. its easy)

Can you DIY?

Brakes all ok?

Wow £130 for an oil change, that's some expensive oil or labour

That is absolute crazy money  :jumping: for such a simple straight forward job, I'd be not far from broke if I didn't do all my own work on my cars if I had to pay that sort of money. Dread to think what people pay for clutches etc  :scared:

You say you are selling soon- so lets assume not for another month and then the car doesn't sell for say another 2 months. That would mean the car would be over due the service by 3 months or 3-4k miles (im just guessing the mileage here).

I would get it serviced -that way there would be no doubt in any potential buyers minds about whether the car is cared for etc.

If my car needed doing an oil & filter change on the cheap to sell I would personally use National Tyres: http://www.national.co.uk/oil-change-search?VRM=LC05WXS

For £40 you can't grumble.

I sold my 23000 mile 2007 ED30 needing a service and a new tyre and MOT last year for £10k. Depends on what your buyer wants and when it was due , i sold in April MOT/Service due in May. Just adjust the price accordingly .

£130 for an oil and filter is a joke, even if the oil is £60 and filter £10 your telling me you get charged £60 labour for the privilege? must be mad lol

£200 would easily have you a full service with all genuine bits mate and changing every filter and using genuine VW spec oil from TPS, just have a shop around and use genuine bits, if i went to view a GTi that had just been serviced, fresh PCV and Diverter you know the owner has half a clue about the engines and wanted to look after it

Thanks for all replies.

Car is booked in at AKS. After reading all your replies and having a good think about it, there are pros and cons to having the service done but I think I would just feel more comfortable selling it having been serviced rather than having to explain why I haven't. Also if it hadn't been serviced and the potential buyer is suspicious of why, they might start to look more closely at the car to find faults to knock me down even more.

So I would rather go in confidently and explain that I have really looked after it :)

I've just got to look at what my car is worth now so I may post soon asking for your opinions on pricing  :happy2:

How much for the service?

I'm not too sure to be honest. I can't remember how much it was last year without digging out the receipt.

I'm actually thinking about having a go at the oil change myself though. There is a really good video on youtube on how to do it and it looks so simple!
