1st and often 2nd are no chance for me even on a dry road, and that's on Supersports! Think the k03 just comes in so hard that you've lost grip before you even get to the kind of rpm where a k04 shines.

Anti-lift kit is on the list...

Really? I'm easily flat in second on Goodyear F1s.

I've been surprised by the traction the tyres get.

Alk is a great mod.
I've got Salk and superpro torque bush insert and it helps get the power down a lot. I'm flat in 2nd in the dry.

Does it really make a lot of difference? Ive already got a vibra technics lower gearbox mount and polybushed front wishbones but have been looking at ALK's, need help getting the new ponies down.

Yes, R-Tech Stage 1. Makes a hell of a difference, I gained about 70lb/ft if I remember correctly!

I made the move. Very different power delivery, and also the K04 engines have a deeper exhaust note too

Lots of good points made here.

@Pudding Have a look at Dan's build here, he's fitted a k03 hybrid turbo with good results. Well north of 300bhp, safely, and minimising lag:

If I'd read the thread properly I'd have realised you've got a k04..!

In which case just stick with it. I don't think you can have k04 top end with k03 response. The hybrid sounds good, but ultimately it'd be a step down in (peak) power for you.

Yeah K04.  Don't get me wrong, I love the midrange and top end but it's a pretty laggy beast below 3000rpm.  Then again, that's probably not such a bad thing given the traction issues with these cars!

I think power aside, the edition 30's are an awesome choice. Look miles fresher cosmetically! wheels suit the car to a T.

Just like a mk4 anniversary all they need in reality is a 30mm drop some spacers and keeping split mint, resale value is brilliant and always has been apart from the initial drop. Future classic! even on a stage 1 tune i think they are one of the most underestimated cars on the road!

Extra funds allowing id happily have an edition 30 over my stage 2 GTi just on looks alone, especially red or grey.

Yeah a mapped ED30 just isn't what people expect from a humble Golf!  MK7 Rs are no bother.... in a straight line at least.....and once rolling, lol

A mate in his BMW 330CI said "it's just a golf" to me on the weekend.  Once i had stopped to wait for him to catch up i asked him if he still thinks "it's just a golf"...;)
