Outer CV boot parts
« on: January 14, 2016, 10:06:55 pm »
Car has just been in for a service and VW mentioned outer CV boot has split. Declined them repairing it as they were asking £203 which apparently already included 20% off

Looking at getting the part(s) from TPS and taking to local independent garage. Spoke to TPS earlier just before they closed and got a quote of £20ish for the boot but the guy didn't know whether it was a kit or not but said he thought it came with clips (sounds like it might be thishttp://www.vwgenuineparts.co.uk/parts/vw_golf_mk5_cv_boot.shtml). The VW advisory sheet mentioned it needed CV boot and some bolts to do it, is this an extra part or just VW chatting b*llocks?

Also asked before but never got any answers, any recommendations for good independent garage round Wimbledon, Kingston, Morden South London/Surrey area?

Cheers.

The kit will come with bootie,grease,2xclips and hub nut!

The extra is for the bottom ball joint nuts and bolts but they only come in at £3.00 ish.

cheers man, any idea of the part numbers? I did mention bolts to guy at TPS but he had no idea.

Irish - I rung JKM in Portsmouth as I spend time down south and they seem to be helpful and highly recommended and they quoted £90ish. £70 seems good. Parts seem about £25 and probably about an hours labour so guess I will just ring round see who can give me a good price for the labour. It's so hard to find reviews for garages on like Google etc as often only people leaving reviews are those who had a bad experience so everywhere looks dodgy.

Yeah probably a good price although what I did was ring the garage and say someone quoted me £90 and can you do it better as you are a local garage so likely will be a repeat customer and they quoted cheaper and did a good job.

I man not a mechanic but after looking at how to repair the cv boot as I was going to do it myself it seems pretty straight forward so even an average garage should be able to do a good job so would not worry much. It is more when you are getting say engine or exhaust work done when you want a highly recommended garage
