Leak from rear view mirror area

So Thursday morning jump into golf, drive down street, turn left and small bit of water lands on my lap. Drips coming from the rear view mirror.

Checked the glass, original and same as all other glass in car for dates. Rang usual windscreen places and previous owners to confirm glass never replaced.

So stripped the interior light out to find a gap in the mastic of the roofskin. That couldn't be it?

Run a bead of windscreen sealant below the rubber trim at top?

Is there a way to remove the rubber trim at top off windscreen to check?

Well I cleaned the channel out and then used thinners to clean before I attempted to apply a pu sealer.
Problem is the gap is so small at top of the screen the nozzle wouldn't fit.
Good news is there have been no more leaks but I haven't parked the car the same way as before.
Have got some blunt medical syringes that I will use to spply sealer instead when I get time.
