iPod cable / armrest dock - What do I need?!

Hello all. 

I've just purchased a Mk5 GT TDI (07) and it has the factory iPod cradle in one of the armrests.   I have a touch and it isn't compatible with this and I thought I'd be able to get an adapter cable from eBay and I ended up getting this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-VW-Volkswagen-Golf-mk7-mk6-mk5-ipod-iPhone-Charger-Lead-Cable-Media-In-/262234356586?

The iPod end is fine, but the connection to the dock seems to large and doesn't fit.   Can anyone tell me which cable I should be looking for please?

Okay so a little update after some investigation.   It looks like the previous owner may have cocked up the iPod connector, it is the same as the one I have bought but it is integral to the MDI unit obviously - I have had it out of the car but it looks like various parts are glued together and wouldn't release, I was thinking I'd be able to replace the connecting cable myself and feed it back through the unit. 

Has anyone had any experience doing this or can I get the unit refurbished somewhere or it is a case of spending 150 and getting a replacement from eBay?

Okay one more question if you don't mind (and my post gets allowed by a moderator ....)

Would I be able to remove the unit with the duff iPod connector and swap it for the one below?  Would all the connectors simply plug in with no issues etc?
