18x8.5 wheel size, what are the drawbacks?
« on: January 23, 2016, 07:20:08 pm »
So I really like the TD 1.2's but would like them without the writing around the edges. So 1.3;s it is..

But they only come in 8.5 width  not available in 8inch.
So what are the complications of this?

You should still be ok if you stick to 225 40, assuming they're et45.

I think VWR wheels are unbranded TD 1.2's, but carry a premium .

Can't comment about n the wider wheel though, but interested he people's thoughts also, I was thinking about running a wider trackday wheel , subscribed

Et45 is pretty much flush with an 8 inch wheel and 225 width tyre.

8.5, there's 6/7mm more poke from the wheel, but keeping the 225 over say a 235 should just clear. Depends if you're lowered, and by how much!

I reckon you'll be ok. I'm 30mm down on H&R springs, BBS VZ which are 8 wide, et44 with 225 40 18s. It's nowhere near close to rubbing, even with hard driving.

Adding 6-7mm of poke to the wheel but staying with 225 width tyres would be negligible at 30, 40, or probably 50mm drop.

I didn't get the details of the TDs but from memory they're et45 so the rule above applies.

No issue running 225 40 tyres on 8.5 rims by the way. It's barely any more stretched than a 7.5 or 8 in reality.
