Lights on bulbs in cluster?

My 05 GTi has no side / headlights on symbols in the cluster when on - is this normal?

Yes its normal, only lights that come on the cluster are for high beams or fog lights

That's good to know, thanks - I see clusters on non-gti Mk5's with lights in the dials so I wasn't sure.
