I once sold an m sport 330 to a legit buyer, who once the cash was cleared into my account, asked me to deliver it to Southampton docks.
The car had left the country in less than 12 hrs after initial contact...
I had no problems, but the speed that the asset disappeared, with so little paperwork, was an eye opener!

so thats £2400 for 25 days approx 375 miles and has to disclose a £25K+ claim on his insurance for 5 years

Jeeeesussss!
Thats another reason why I won't be leasing then!
Do they try to flog you some sort of "gap insurance" product to cover such a loss?

LUCKO:

the gap insurance was irrelevant vw finance bummed him

they asked his insurers for £24k for the car then told him he would have to make the further 23 payments even though car was gone after a complaint they agreed £2000 + tax deposit was enough..what a joke

mines a year old end of month they want 65% of the remaining balance (£225 x12) to give it back and im seriously considering dumping it back on them tbf

Lad who had seen the post shared on facebook walked past the car abandoned outside a park about 5 miles away from where it was taken

Apparently they leave the car for 3-4 days, and if it's untouched/still there they know it hasn't been tracked.

Mate doesn't really want to keep it anymore though, in case it happens again
Will have knocked value off car now as well, as HPI check will show it as stolen and recovered.

A HPI check will come back clear mate.

Stolen recovered isn't stored on the database

What makes you say that Adam?.

Just thought that was the way it worked tbh. If it would register as stolen a check, why wouldn't it register as stolen and retrieved.

--- End quote ---
When a car is "reported" as stolen it will automatically be registered as stolen on a hpi report.
It cost nothing to check these days and I am £3 odd to get a full report and history of any theft damage if reported etc.
I've got a report for own car.

He's right, it will come up as stolen recovered.
