I had exactly the same problem when i started searching for my gti in mid 2014 looking for an unmolested one with low mileage  which took over 6 months to find until this one came up in auto trader for almost £7000 went to have a look at it and it was what I was looking for with low miles black full leather 18 monza which were a bonus but then in march 2015 the prices fell and they were dirt cheap with higher miles but cheaper than my purchase price by a few grand which was shocking but then again I have a gti with low miles stamped and vosa checked so wasn't too fussed although the pri** could have polishes and valeted it for the price I paid which was promised but never happened.

Come and have a look if you're interested  :signLOL:

Good luck

I do quiet like the look of yours, but the lack of factory xenons really puts me off. Though I think you should take some nicer pictures for your ad, it just looks a little unloved with it looking pretty dirty.... or is that you hoping to keep it :P
Just not had the time to wash it atm but doesn't mean I don't look after cars as my last car I owned for five years and spent ££££'s on mods but due to my job loss I really can't afford to keep it. pictures probably do need a change lol

Lack of factory xenons  :signLOL: that's just a lame excuse  :booty: :rolleye: but seriously you need to come and have a look at what you're missing out on  :stupid: :driver:

BTW the xenons were fitted after so the car didn't come like this and now has cruise control too so I'd be losing well over £1500 over the four months I have been driving it and what I've spent on it so resale value is imho reasonable

Lack of xenons  :booty: :signLOL:

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,103267.0.html

Hey look as you can tell from the first post I don't really want a silver or a red one. I also said I was flexible on xenons and DSG. Yours are aftermarket xenons so its not something I'm interested in.  I was querying on the red GTI just in case as its a low enough mileage and if it was all I can find, then so be it.

Anyway he hasn't got back to me and I've since decided that's too much money for a 06 GTI.

Good luck selling yours! :)

Only teasing you dude  :rolleye: :driver:

You can buy which ever car you want as I'll be patient and see what happens.

Took me ages too, ended up buying one from the dealer ( :scared:) after seeing so many "dodgy" ones or with very little history.

As it was approved used, ended up getting the 12 month warranty too! Worth checking out eBay as the VW garages around here don't advertise on AT, but do on eBay for some reason!

ill be putting mine up for sale soon. 98k, just done cam belt, water pump, full service, new DV, New tyres, DSG, Factory tints, new fuel pump, new radiator (before I got it), pre cat removed. The car runs like brand new! I bought it with 75k on the clock only a few months ago so the rest has been motorway miles. Was setting it up for a stage 1 map but the fuel is getting a bit much (I'm filling it every..single...day). £4.2k which leaves you plenty to mod it :)
The previous owners drove it slow (last owner was family member). I have been driving it with a heavy foot but mostly motorway. No damage or previous accidents.

Just as a comparison the ED30 I am picking up on Saturday was £8500 2007 plate Manual 87k miles. Only options are highline clocks and heated seats. Not sure what the price diff is between ed30 and standard though.

You checked the for Sale thread on here? Although if you want totally standard you may be hard pushed.
My first ports of call are;

Pistonheads
Autotrader
eBay
Gumtree

Good luck mate, with your budget id imagine you'll get a goodun eventually!   :drinking:

I've been looking on all of them sites hourly lol.

I don't mind subtle (cosmetic) mods, but I hate engine mods with a passion. I've read too many stories when/if something goes wrong other garages find it difficult to diagnose the issue and end up blaming the tuner and it could end up being a money pit.

Only when it's done wrong by the wrong people. I know where you're coming from though. My specialist has shared some of their horror stories with me (while respecting their customers).

It's one reason why I've never lifted a spanner to mine. JKM have done everything with the right parts. It's not for my lack of ability but for provenance.
For my modifications (none of which are cosmetic) my file has invoices for parts and labour of a few pounds short of £10k.
If and when it's sold I hope I can make a buyer comfortable with the car in this regard.

I believe you're right to be extremely cautious and sceptical though.  :happy2:

Spent three months looking for the "right" one and after some duds I finally located one on Pistonheads.

Overpaid by £1000 because the private market was so thin for "good" ones.

Factory xenons will limit your choice!

The difference is the extra 30 bhp on the ed and a few body bits from what I know.

There are a number of significant engine upgrades as well. They're quite different in key areas.

I'm not too familiar so couldn't mention any unless I had one myself that is  :signLOL:

Thanks  :happy2:
