Smashed splitter...repairable?
« on: February 03, 2016, 08:51:19 pm »
So basically I can't drive  :sad1: I managed to munch my splitter in a multi storey car park

What are my chances of being able to repair it to a barely-noticeable standard? I've got the broken piece, but I'm not sure what's best to join them back together (needs to be flexible)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Where are you based mate? Got a GTI lip I took off mine when I put my ed30 front on, it's sat doing nothing so you can have it if you're close by.

Just seen he's in Surrey... and I'm quite a bit further north!

Offer stands anyway - if anyone is heading down that way from Sheff/Notts or coming up here from Surrey and they're willing to pick it up on his behalf just let me know and I'm sure we can sort something.

Not after any money, they're not worth much anyway.

Will be at R-Tech on the morning of 24th too if anyone's knocking about.

Thanks for the offer AJP  :happy2:

I've got a (very tatty) stock splitter down in a garage in Surrey, but I'm actually in Bristol now.

Was really hoping I could fix this one, seeing as it cost me £100!

I don't even know what these things are worth to be honest, I figured they weren't  that expensive from the dealer? More of an assumption than anything though!

I'd send it out by courier but there's an incredibly high chance of it getting kinked or cracked on the way, you know what they're like. So that'd be pointless.

Up to you mate, it'll sit in the shed til it finds a new home, so if you're ever up my way and still need it just give us a shout.

Is this an Edition 30 replica splitter from eBay or a normal GTI one?

Mine is also wrecked as of a few weeks ago. The fit was never perfect, so was willing to spend more on a new one from TPS this time around. £320 from TPS...

So it's back to eBay rep or lucking out on someone selling soon.

Yeh, mine was just an eBay rep. But still £100! If I'd paid £250+, I'd be literally in tears.

Still stuck on how I can go about fixing it though.

In case anyone cares, soldering iron worked a treat.

Snipped off a bit of spare plastic from the underside and used it as filler, then another little bit as a extra thickness. Gave it a sand with a DA just to get rid of the excess. Needs a chunk more sanding obviously, but I'm pretty impressed
