Help! My options are disappearing.
« on: February 04, 2016, 05:03:47 pm »
Hi guys,

Can anyone shed some light on why some of the features of my ed30 seem to be disappearing. About 3 months ago the chirp that told me the alarm was set stopped. No big deal I figured so just put up with the standard lights flash. Now the auto dip left reverse mirror has decided it just wants to do a little shimmy and not actually dip any more. ( I've made sure the switch is in the correct left position).
The battery has never been off.
Sadly I don't have vag com so I can't scan it but will this reveal the answer to the mystery. Anyone else had the same happen?
I was considering getting a Ross tech set up, perhaps I'm gonna have to to resurrect these features .

It's known that some alarm sirens just die. Can you test if your alarm siren works?

Check if the electric motor that controls the wing mirror doesn't need to be oiled or something.

Those are features that just don't stop working unless something "dies".

Hi Pete

The siren will have failed, I never changed it so it is probably the original.
Lock the car with key, after 10-20 seconds unlock the drivers door with key only (not buttons) and if after 15ish seconds the indicators flash but no siren sounds then the siren is gubbed.

Look in the manual for retraining the mirror dip to a new position, see if that helps?
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Someone may have moved the mirror whilst it was in 'L'. So it thinks that is the new position when reverse is engaged.

Move the mirror to the position you want it whilst in 'L', and try again.

Cheers for the replies folks.

Hope alls well with you David, your S4 sounds lovely. Eddies never missed a beat (the very minor things in this thread aside), funnily though if I drive it like a loon I get 28.3, if I try to drive very gently I get 33, so I gave up trying to be economical, especially with fuel the price it is. So thanks for letting me buy it...... :happy2:

You know where I am if you ever need VCDS.
It was a cracking car, I am so glad a year on you still feel happy with it. Was one of the better examples out there for sure  :happy2:

I have done a little bit to my S4 since we last spoke, funnily enough I get better economy hoofing it in S everywhere, than pottering about in D, got to be one positive of the oil downturn, and that is the prices.
Though sometimes the difference between eddy and the S4 is like when I went from the TDI to the ED30

Miss Eddy, but as you know, not enough doors. Even the avant doesn't have enough space for my growing tribe  :drinking:
