Excessive oil leak on my Golf MkV 1.9 TDI
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:57:32 pm »
Hi,

Recently bought an 04 MkV Golf, and faced my first worry yesterday. I noticed a pretty big oil leak on the driver side wheel. Does anyone have any clue from previous experience what this could stem from?

This (second pic) is from when the car was turned on, standing still, then once we moved it, this appeared.

I checked the oil level today and it was ´´ok´´. So does anyone have an idea what this could stem from?

Cheers

Take the cover under the engine and have a look around the sump area.

You may find that the sump plug just needs tightening, think it was 20mm spanner for the sump plug.

19mm spanner for the sump nut.

as above check the underside for leaks.

Check around the oil cooler and oil pressure sensor.

I had a mk5 1.9 tdi a few years ago and had a big oil leak like yourself, turned out to be leaking form the pressure switch.

Worth a check  :happy2:

Whats a pressure switch, and where is it?

Is it for when the pressure of the oil is too much?
