Where'd you get those dress up washer kit from as I used to have them on the tt yes my faithful mk1

I always worry about cleaning my engine bay in case of water getting in places it shouldn't and shorting something.

It's one  engine bay for certain  the ram.aor does make it look pretty but the bays always need a wipe

I always worry about cleaning my engine bay in case of water getting in places it shouldn't and shorting something.

If I'm cleaning an engine bay with an open filter like the ram air one above then I wrap a carrier bag round it.

Other than that I make sure the engine is hot. I don't leave it running while cleaning.

I give mine a good spray with neat non caustic tfr. Give it 5-10 mins to work its magic then jet wash off. Pull bag off the filter. Start that car and shut the bonnet so it drys slightly then give it a light spray with auto glym tyre dressing and leave that to dry. You get a good shine with that without leaving much residue.

I've done the above and made 15 year old engine bays look as new.

Never had any issues with water getting in electrics or anything. That was more of an issue on older motors with dizzy caps etc

Looks very nice and clean  how do you prevent water from entering the coil pack plug chambers?

Coil packs usually have rubber/plastic type seal fitted to stop that or reduce it. Never had more than a couple of drops down mine.

[/quote]me  externally thanks can I just use gunk or similar?.

Intake valve I'll need to remove the inlet for that but that's saved for another day

I've only ever used none caustic tfr. I just pour some in to a spray bottle neat and just spray over everything. I've never even had to use a sponge or brush but I suppose you could if you wanted.

The last one I did was my Jetta tdi. I should have taken before and after pictures. You wouldn't believe the difference it made.

I'll have a go at some point as it's nice to keep things clean under there 
Yeah thay would have been good to see how clean it came out as these engines do get dusty under there 
May use a light brush for the metal components and TB  :grin:Thanks again

I use g101  apc on mine spray it on leave for 5 minutes agitate with a brush then rinse with the engine running.
