This happened to a mate of mine a few months back.... Turned out to be some sort of gear selection/position sensor inside the gearbox

Similar symptoms as you've described with the gear indicator flashing - basically the car didn't know what gear it was in. His was a TDI Passat though with the stupid key fob thing that you push in to start the car...... His wouldn't start due to the fault

I'm praying that's it mate!

Patrick: good point mate, I do have green flag cover as part of my bank account. That could be a good option if the worst comes to the worst and it's completely shagged.

@r5gtt is an angel sent from heaven!!! I cannot thank him enough. A real nice fellow to boot!  :happy2:  :congrats:

Initial scans showed no signal malfunction in gear selector if I remember correctly. After these were cleared, fault 02413 - Switch for selector Lever Position P Lock (F319) 008 - implausible signal - intermittent came up.

He then took off the gear gaiter and pressed in the yellow plastic clip, which unlocked the gear stick. No more flashing lights and the code cleared and did not come back. Took it for a drive and all is well again  :pomppomp:

Seems like it just got stuck? Will keep an eye on it but thanks again @r5gtt

 :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

I'm actually glad I sorted whatever the problem was  :jumping:

If I hadn't have opened the gear lever cover and pushed the release mechanism we'd still be sitting there thinking the mechatronic unit is foobard and may have just been an early warning sign to say mate I'm going soon so be ready when I do as you'll know what to do if this happens  :signLOL:

Glad you've got your beauty back on the road and it does look and sound great and not not really a person who likes red as bad luck colour for me and the two red cars I did have :happy2:
