New Engine/Gearbox costs??
« on: February 07, 2016, 10:42:26 pm »
Looking for ballpark figures for replacing either the engine or gearbox for the Gti..

Im looking at buying a gti with perfect body but has either a dodgy engine or gearbox. (still waiting on confirmation)

What am I looking at cost wise for either.. Id like to buy from a crashed doner car and not a brand new engine from the Stealers..

You're looking at £1500 for the engine fitting varies.

Gearbox dsg or manual dsg will cost around £500-600 cheaper if yu can find it. check on ebay for both boxes. Privett for fitting possibly around £250-300 and you're better off replacing clutxh components such and flywheel clutch slave cylinder depending on condition.

I'd just be curious as to why a car with 18k miles on the clock has a nackard engine or gearbox.. Does it possibly point at the owner neglecting maintainance perhaps

Depending on what the problem is and if mileage is correct which I'd check pre buying including checking MOT history I'd say driver error or lack of maintenance.

Ill keep you guys posted..
Still no word on it yet.

Not really as ive not heard of it or read about the dsg failing at such low miles or the owner would be straight to vw having words for a free gearbox.

Indeed it will be número 3!
Im building a collection. lol

If I get this car and it not that bad. I'll use it as a base to mod the hell out of it. I'll sell the other 2 as they are pristine and unmolested and I'm in two minds about modding one of them.

But I'm taking a chance as its Sold as seen
