Strange hesitation under load
« on: February 09, 2016, 07:41:53 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a strange problem with my 08 GTI. Basically when the car is accelerating under load (heated seats on and heater on high) I get a slight hesitation around 1500/2000 rpm, but after that it's smooth right through the rev range.

I have recently had my DV changed so that can't be an issue, I have also had the car scanned with VCDS and it is completely clear!

Does anyone have any ideas about what might be the problem?

Thanks

Could be a coil pack. Not sure if you'll definitely get a fault code if it's intermittent.

Would that also be the reason that sometimes my car struggles to start?

It doesn't completely fail but it sounds like it's struggling.

Maybe part of the same problem, maybe something completely different!

Probably best to start at the coils as they're at the cheaper end of possible suspects. It's not really a specialist job to diagnose or fix, so you could do worse than quickly nipping the car into a local garage, they should be able to rule things out at the very least pretty quickly.

As far as I know they'd be able to check the coil packs without relying on fault codes.

So I thought I'd had the problem sorted.

I got down to Awesome GTI (cracking service) and had all of the coil packs changed. Whilst it was being looked at I was advised that one of my spark plugs had oil on it and they needed to be replaced.

Great news I thought, that's the problem sorted. So after coil packs, spark plugs and the oil problem sorting I still have the hesitation under load

Any ideas anyone?

Still no fault codes I take it?

Bit oldskool, but have you tried pulling the MAF?

If you don't have any fault codes showing then maybe have a check over all the vac pipes and PCV pipes for any splits/cracks.

No nothing at all, I have got it going back into the garage on Thursday as they think it might be a possible fuel injector fault! I just hope it is because it's really starting to annoy me now!

So I've finally had the problem fixed! It turned out to be a dodgy MAF so £130 later it's sorted!

Probs best to clear all codes, go for a varied drive, then scan for new codes.

Back with the thread revival!

The mystery hesitation is now back, it's back but not as bad as before.

So now I've had my MAF, Coilpacks and spark plugs changed and it's still not sorted it!

What else is left?

The fuel filter is not listed as a service item has it been changed?
