Another start up squeak!
« on: February 16, 2016, 04:17:39 pm »
Finally got around to recording the squeak.
Do people think it's the starter motor?

Dam, how do you insert the vid link?

Thanks

Sounded like a quieter version of my old r32 squeak. That was chain driven and was told it might have been a tensioner.

Doesn't sound like a starter motor tbh.

Maybe it's the tensioner? When was the cambelt/tensioner last changed?

it's a starter. Take it out, put some grease where you find it to go and and it'll work for 2y+.
Been there, did that - 1h job.

Ok thanks, anyone else of the same opinion or a different one?

Cambelt was done at main dealers April '13 @ 45500 miles.
Paperwork doesn't say if tensioners were done at same time. Mileage is now 95k, not sure when next change is due though.

Cambelt and tensioners are overdue - every 40k miles or 4 years - whichever comes first. Get the water pump done at the same time.
Don't delay in getting it booked in!

Another thread on this exact matter just popped up and the problem was caused by the water pump

Sorry Takumi don't quite understand where you put the grease? On another thread there's a special type of spray you can get but it's £40  :surprised: so I'll get my mate to have a go with grease if that'll work  :happy2:

BALLS....really :scared:
Ok thanks for letting me know that, I better had. That's put back the stage 1 a few months   :scared: :sad1:

Guess that's £500 or so to get belt and bits done?

Depends where you go but I should imagine it should be cheaper then 500, even if not by much

I had the ED30 done at my local indy in Manchester - £320 for cambelt, tensioners and water pump - all genuine VW Parts.
If you want to take it to the dealers, some do a special offer of £349 for cambelt, tensioners and water pump - call your local dealership to see if they are offering this.
Is your car DSG? If so, it should have had the oil and filter changed at 40k and 80k miles.

It was £500 last time round at main dealers.  Not sure if there is a £350 deal down this way (Kent) but I'll ask!
DSG was done at 40 & 80k.

Checked the paperwork and cambelt was done at 54k not 45, phew!
It's due but not over due
Wish me luck going to phone around garages in a mo.

Just phoned main dealer and they said cambelt change is every 4 years or 120000 miles, can anyone confirm that?
Ta.

Dont use them!

The interval is 4 years or 40k miles - whichever comes first. The mileage was officially reduced a few years ago by VW.

Bit of a roller coaster this one....
Was on a downer when you mentioned it yesterday.
On a high when I spoke to the dealer.
Now back to square one....!
Where did you get those figures from?
The guy at the dealers was using the VW system apparently.
