What to stick wing mirror glass back on with......
« on: February 17, 2016, 02:08:34 pm »
As above really..

Glass has fallen off intact. As its heated is there any special substance required to stick back on or will trusty araldite do the job?

Cheers

Stuck mine back in with double sided tape. Not had any issues a year later and the heated bit works fine.

Previous owner stuck it back on on mine and then one day, it fell off at 80mph and scratched the hell out of my door in the process.  You have been warned!

I bought a new glass from VW for a more permanent fix.

I used this to stick my wing mirror back on when it started to move

Make sure it the "permanent" variant.

Removing all the old adhesive is essential (and a PITA)

I had this issue a few weeks ago and a nice amount of super glue resolved my issue...:)

Super glue might eat into the mirror backing, either use adhesive pads of mirror glue like you would use in a house. Silicone is also known to attack the backing film so don't use that either.
