« on: February 17, 2016, 03:39:42 pm »
I have just put the oem stereo back in my car and it's asking for a code. I can't find one anywhere. Apart from paying vw is there anyway retrieve the code. It's a blaupunkt.

If it's the radio that came with the car you shouldn't need to enter any code. The ECU stores the code, I think. You should only need to enter a code when you install a radio for the 1st time.

VW can provide the code if you give them the radio's serial number and the chassis number of the car that came with radio fitted from factory. They have easy access to it.

On ebay there are people offering to give out codes too...

Do you still have the radio fitted and it still keeps asking for the code?

VW stopped giving a card with the radio code since the mk5s because the code is just needed on the 1st time you connect the radio to a given car. After that you shouldn't need to enter the code... Older generations when you disconnected the battery the radio would ask for the code again.

You can always go to a VW dealership and say that you disconnected the battery and that later the radio asked for a code. So you just need them to tell you which is it.

With the numbers I told you before they can search the database where the codes are stored. If the numbers aren't right, i.e., if your car isn't the car from which the radio came from factory, they won't find the code. If it works, it's a proof that the radio belongs to that car.

They shouldn't charge for retrieving stereo codes, I got mine for free over the phone recently, just give Chassis number and reg. But at least it wasn't silly money!

They tried but it wasn't on system or something so they needed the car.
