Rainbow IQ 365.19 direct replacement
« on: February 17, 2016, 07:27:00 pm »
Just picked up set of these NOS, my plans are to fit them, and fit some sound insulation too.

No currenty planning to amp them as I will run them off a 50w head unit to begin with is this the wrong way to go?

Finally what should I do with the rears?

They'll no doubt work OK, but you won't be getting anywhere near their full potential without amping them properly

I've never been arsed with upgrading rear speakers personally. I sit in the front, and the passengers aren't funding my audio!

How difficult is it to amp speakers? Don't you run a feed direct from the battery?

For the rears some people seem to just run a woofer and forget the tweeter.

Yeh, you'll need to run the correct sized power cable for the amp from the engine bay. Amp's generally go in the boot, but can go under front seat if small enough. Then speaker wires from the amp to the doors through the original rubbers. Taking the exterior door panels will make wiring and sound deadening easier too.

3 or 5 channel amp running front speakers and a small sub will transform the sound. Forget the rears. Sound insulation is a good investment but requires door skins off which can be tricky regarding the door handle.
Go to your local car hifi place for some advice. Where are you located? If in Scotland i recommend MF2K in Glasgow.
Good luck  :happy2:

So would I simply unplug the rears?

Where could I place a sub as I don't really want to lose any boot space?

I've used silent cost in the past, and also flashing tape as sound insulation, both seemed to work quite well

Ideally replace head unit which gives pre outs to add an amp. Disconnect rears. 3channel Front left and Right and rear sub.
You can get sub boxes built into the side of the boot. You can build a small box then take it in and out as required via a quick disconnector easy :)
As i said make a trip to local car hifi place for advice. Also you can buy 2nd hand amps. Genesis make good stuff.  :notworthy:
Bit of Dynamat Extreme helps. Cuts road noise too

Yeah I'm about to change the head unit, like the look of the dnx525dab

Amp will have to wait for the moment with new head unit and new speakers plus noise insulation.

I'm keen to do all this myself, partly for cost saving, partly for my own reasons

Do you have a part number? But reluctant to fit a window one tbh.

Think gps aerial will be ok under the dash

Pretty sure its these. There are several versions for example if you need GPS or TV

6R0035501A Base (it has two connectors only FM and DAB)
6R0035849A Aerial

Extension cable as you need to run one as just now there is a cable for FM only. You will need to check the adapter at the head unit end

How did you get on with this rainbow set? Very interested in this.
Do you mind sharing where you bought it?
