88W vs 92Y

168mph vs 186mph speed rating

560kg vs 630kg load

Both fall in the limits of the GTI

Could be enough to void your insurance in the event of an accident if the minimum manufacturers recommendation is 92y.

given the weight of the car and the nature of what this tyre is for, you'll be exceeding its load rating.it may not go pop so to speak, but you might find uneven/excessive wear or the tyre deforming .

im between trying mpss or a semi slick like ad08r or toyo888 for my next tyre.

with summer coming up semi slicks are very tempting !

The Michelin pilot sport cup 2 in 225/40/18 is the same price as those you've mentioned, and around £20 more a corner than the MPSS which is tempting me right now

They are find for the weight of the car...

Do you have any actual proof of this, rather than just your opinion based on some simple maths based on the weight of the car, not the load generated under extreme braking and cornering forces? Sidewall stiffness is irrelevant to the structural strength, which is given as a load and speed rating

Fitting sub standard tyres, i.e. tyres that are lesser rated than OE, is grounds for void insurance and/or prosecution in the event of an accident
