Squeeking when turning...driving me crazy (video attached)
« on: February 20, 2016, 08:51:55 am »
My 2.0T Jetta has been making this noise for the past few weeks, and I think it's getting worse. I just jacked it up and went from lock to lock, but couldn't replicate the noise.

My first thoughts are steering rack :scared: Or possibly the top mounts on my Airlift struts?

Any thoughts would be massively appreciated

I would have said steering rack, as it sounds the exact same as the noise that came from my dads qashqai only a few weeks back. And that was the steering rack. But the noise only happened when he turned.

Yours appears to be making it without turning the wheel at all as well?

I'm actually rocking the wheel a bit to highlight the noise. Doesn't make a sound when driving straight, and you can only hear it at low speeds (assuming motorway noise drowns it out)

I've had a proper listen on the drive home yesterday, and I'm leaning more towards left strut top mount bearing.

I've got Airlift Performance struts...what are my options for repair? I'm going to try and jack the car up again at the weekend, but don't want to be stuck with it in bits!
