Rear high level brake light - Mk5 GTI
« on: February 26, 2016, 11:48:29 am »
Does anyone know the best place to get hold of a high level brake light? Mine has gone and needs replacing before MOT time.

Thanks!

It will still pass the MOT so dont panic. VW parts counter is your best bet

Ah cool, I was told by an independent VW specialist when I had a service late last year that it will fail an MOT for the high level brake light not working.

Puts a bit less pressure on getting it done if you're correct.

Cheers.

Ah okay.

Yeah that's my plan, going to call the local VW dealership this afternoon to find out a price.
Cheers for the help.

Well my one was removed and replaced with a tinted one so don't understand how it was taken off without damaging it. there's a technique.

Thanks for the link, I found that thread about installing a new one when I searched yesterday.

Makes it look perfectly do-able to swap it over.

Thanks for the replies lads.

Mine stopped working a while back and I replaced mine by myself. It was very very easy to do and I know hardly anything about fixing cars!

Changed mine yesterday.

Drilled into the old one and snapped it out with long nose pliers and didn't damage the paint.

Was a bit concerned that it didn't snap into place until I pressed pretty hard. Sounded like I snapped it but it seems to be held very well.

I replaced mine last year. Drilled holes to weaken the lense and pulled it out in bits. New one cost about £40, I think. Hardest part is re seating the square seal/gromit. Took me about and hour in total, including clean up.
