Should I go back to revo?
« on: February 26, 2016, 12:53:18 pm »
I had got a stage 1 remap over a year ago and since then I've got a bcs catback and an air induction is it worth going back to revo to change the map at all?

I would never get the map done before the mods  :popcornsoda:

To be fair a lot of people start out with a remap early on with no plans for hardware changes, but then as time goes on we get the bug and end up with uprated fuel pumps, downpipes etc. So then another map to get the best out of the mods is required (call it Stage 2 or whatever).

But back to the original point, a cat back doesn't free up any more power and it'd be pointless to expect remarkable gains from an intake when the rest of the hardware is stock.

Rich put it more succinctly... It's a no.

Get a BCS downpipe with a sports cat and then you can go back for a stage 2 map.

Weird how that works hey  :signLOL:

I mod before a remap as I know the map isn't going to be enough  for what I'm after in any car.

Our ECUs self tune but the boost request is fixed.  Any additional fuelling requirements an air filter and exhaust upgrade may require will be taken care of automatically.

Stage 2 is pretty much just the boost going up another notch because the absence of the front cat reduces EGTs.  Like you say, do the hardware first and just go for the more is better approach from the get go!  Cheaper in the long run!

Thanks mate, that's good to know our cars auto tune for these additions so may as well go stage 2.
My old car didn't auto tune so had to be mapped to compensate these additions.

Thanks again for the heads up  :drinking:

The ECU will adjust the AFR but won't increase boost.

Basically it's safe to run uprated parts on a stock map but you won't be getting anywhere near the power you could with a map to suit.

Also worth noting that a decat almost always throws up a dash light, and this is one of the things most Stage 2 maps address.

I'll have to disagree with you there AJP  :sad1:

my P-flow pipe and Ramair filter caused nothing but high revving and fuel guzzling in my dsg motor so I think it does need a map re the filter as ive been through the pain of fitting and removing it many times over with another filter to be sure it wasn't that particular filter causing the issue but it wasn't. I'd have to remap before fitting the filter oflr fit thay on the day of the mapping. not having a go at you but stating the facts with my car  :stupid: thing.

I remember the thread and the trouble you were having.

Got to say it's the first time I'd heard of an aftermarket intake causing such a headache on a TFSI on a stock map.

It really would me up  :stupid: thing wasn't running right at all and this is the first car I've ever had that issue with.
