Aux belt tensioner

Hi all,

Think I've narrowed down the slight ticking noise on my car to be the Aux belt tensioner,

Was just wondering how easy is it to replace?

Usually it is the alternator pulley causing a tick, is it at idle/low revs?
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Yeah it is. Can see the tensioner wobbling though hence why I thought it was this?

First time I changed one it had the tensioner bouncing all over, you could remove the belt tension and see if your alternator pulley only rotates one way (good) or both ways (bad)
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I got the same issue on my 1.9 tdi. Plan to replace the alternator and belt at the same time.

The weather has been sooo cold! I have been putting it off, as its only ticking - not actually causing an issue - Yet......

You need an open ended 15mm(?) spanner on the swuad bit on the tensioner, take it up all the way and the belt goes floppy.
Just don't slip off as it can really hurt your hand.

If you are dojng it alone, then best to prop the tensioner open with a little drill bit/allen key L, I usually just have a mate assist.

You were right, just checked this morning and I think it's the alternator.  (Turns both ways)

GSF car parts sell the INA pulley that VW use, for a lot less too
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.

Don't think it should be bouncing up and down?

I checked the alternator again using the video and I'm pretty sure it's ok.

Went to vw and bought a new tensioner so I'll try that first and report back.
