Four Wheel Alignment but Steering Wheel Not Straight
« on: February 27, 2016, 02:23:01 pm »
I had my wheel alignment done to get the steering wheel straightened.....but it's still not straight.

The guy doing it adjusted the toe on the front to match, but the steering wheel wasn't locked straight whilst he was doing it?

Anyway, all the geo is right, what else can be adjusted to straighten the wheel?

I'm fairly confident now that this is confusing the angle sensor, as it doesn't go in a straight line without the wheel being 8 degrees to the right. Therefore, the car thinks it should be turning to the right, but the other sensors indicate that it's going straight. The folks over at ross-tech state the tolerance has to be +/- 1.5 degrees to reset the sensor.

Go back to th place who did it and AKS them to redo it properly at no extra cost!

That's really how I put it across to him. But he said he adjusted the toe, so it should be straight now.

Looking at the read out, the rear camber hasn't been corrected either. Does the readout look OK? First column are the manufacturer specs.

I have no idea. Only went to this guy (who I won't name) as he came well recommended on pistonheads. Clearly wrong there. All he did was change the toe, which was literally turning a few bolts, and relieved me of my money.

The car starts pulling to the left as well at around 60-70, so I'm always steering right (on top of the steering being off to the right). All the tyres and tyre pressures are fine. This started happening yesterday before the alignment, however. Should've just waited and gone to the place Statller recommended, but it's over in Sheffield.

My main concern is the steering, how do you centre it when the toe on the left and right are the same?

You take it back.. they clamp the wheel correctly and then re-adjust the toe.

Balls. I hate confrontation, but I've paid for a job and it hasn't been done.

Just awkward going to him, having a go and then expecting him to do it better the second time around. If anything, he's less inclined to do a proper job and to start giving me excuses.

Might have to chalk this down as a life lesson and go elsewhere. It's always the ones that try to be overly friendly that get you.

I'd go elsewhere too.

Try and find somewhere with a Hunter machine - if you go on the website it shows the locations of approved places.

Thanks for that mate. There are a couple near me so I'll give them a ring on Monday.

There's also a Kwik-Fit locally that has a hunter system and there open on Sundays. I want to get this sorted asap. You think they'd be okay?

I've been doing four wheel alignment at my new job and if the wheel isn't straight then the need to redo it as they've not done it correctly  :stupid: idiots. How can you give the customers car back like that  :signLOL: I'd get crucified for that at work I tell ya.

Unless suspension damage was evident that is  :popcornsoda:

Suspension was checked and all in good order. Was actually hoping it was that, so it could be changed and corrected easily.

Think I'll pop over to Kwik-Fit in the morning.
