Thanks for replying XJay. So an OEM revised edition DV  of a part that is prone to failure is better than an uprated part? I must admit I don't know to what extent they both do their jobs differently or if they even do at all. So any enlightenment would be welcome. All I know is when I got my Gti and had it modded it's boost was around 10-12psi, removal of OEM DV revealed split diaphragm, so replaced with Forge DV and boost was 18-20psi and it's been like it for 4 years and 70,000 miles. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro Forge and I want the best from my map at R-Tech, but just a little confused.

It's been well proven that the OEM revision G valve is the best valve for the TFSIs.
It should be treated as a yearly maintenance item.  40 quid and easily home changable.

You replaced a broken valve with a new one, so of course it would be better.

Okay point taken. So the difference between the OEM G and Forge DV is?

One recirculates the gasses back into the turbo and the other....

Tell a lie. I always refer to my part as a Forge DV, but it's referred to as vacuum operated record valve. Do you know the difference?

If you look at the two they are very different, don't need me to tell you that.
Piston type valves like the rev d, gfb dv+ etc may last longer but offer no proven performance gains and plenty of proven losses.
the OEM G revision DV is the best for sealing as the diaphragm is improved on older earlier revisions.

ultimately you want an r-tech map you are paying for their knowledge so i would suggest you stick to their recommendation or niki would be unhappy!

I think if Niki says he prefers one part over another you've kind of got to sit up and listen.

Not sure if there are many more TFSI tuners in the country with his experience.

I'm willing to try out the GFB+ DV after reading a bit about it and watching Niki's video test fitting one of them. It seems that some units have too much paint that doesn't allow the piston to move freely in the solenoid rod. If the one I receive doesn't work properly, I'll return it.

I also have to relocate my DV to the front of the engine. LHD cars have the DV too much hidden and the useless noise pipe.

Absolutely, I'm looking forward to the map. Please understand my questioning is merely because I was quizzical and want to learn more. At the end of the day, we all want what's best for our cars right? And I'm no different, so I'm happy to succumb to someone with greater knowledge :)

Yeah I'm with you mate - question everything!! (Not just on mk5 GTI forums..)

Lots of stuff is subjective - it's easy to say brand A is better than brand B, but for some, different parts work better for them in different circumstances.

But certain things, like the diverter valve, have to be looked at objectively as it's designed to do the same job under the same circumstances for everyone.

I trust what Niki says!
