Which 26 did u have, did u try 2680 ?
Sorry to digress a little...where can I get 2680 and what were the bugs with 2660?

do you have Access to VCDS and have a map on disc ?

here is 2680 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E4ENUHO7

but only do it if you have access to vcds, ps dont bother with 2660
Thanks, why would I need VCDS?  I upgraded to 2660 with no issues.

well, you may be ok but 2680 reverts your RNS to how it was when it left the factory, so any special bits added will be reset, like phone, reverse camera, soundpack etc etc

Quote from VWnavi

Concerning the need for Coding:

The RNS510 defaults back to factory standards after upgrading with a "Factory CD". This means:
- Language will be German
- Speaker setup will be 4x 20W standard setup (no Soundsystem)
- Layout will be Highline (Silver/Black/red)
- unfortunately i do not know the default Coding for the Steering Wheel and MFD. It might cause problems with the Multifunction Steering Wheel and the Multfunction Display Plus if fitted.
As you can see from the above: The radio will work with basic settings. If you have Volkswagen Sound System or Dynaudio Sound System fitted this will not work without coding. Also it might cause pre-amp problems with the dynaudio and volkswagen sound system (not sure, just read that somewhere) if not coded right.
If you have no data on ur MFD this is a coding issue resulting from the upgrade.
If all these points work the way they did before u are fine without coding! Problem is, u will not know until you try, unless u can say: i have no soundsystem installed, my skin is highline and my MFD doesnt support the RNS anyway...

Can I not go to the dealership and ask them to do the upgrade, i.e. if I complain about speed of satnav, etc.?

you could try, it might be like asking the government to reduce the duty on fuel by half though  :P, on a serious note was your Nav in the car from new ?

In that case they may do the upgrade if you say you have issues , tell them your friend had same issues and the dealer put new firmware on that fixed it  :happy2:

differences between 2680 and 2660 as posted by Mater

1. Firmware is a Factory Firmware Release version not a Beta
2. Reformats the HDD and updates the way it is addressed (hence the speed increase that is noticed by most ppl)
3. Better support for SDHC (now properly supports 32GB before some people had problems over 16GB cards)
4. Fixed Regensburg Syndrome. Will change back to your location within a couple of seconds (will depend on how good your antenna is and location but everyone who i have done the Upgrade for says it changes within about 2 secs.)
5. Fixed Battery drain issue
6. Correct support for MFSW
7. Correct support for Voice Control (it is hit an miss on 266X) It's now an option in the Setup menu & Voice Tag option is also an option when saving addresses
8. Fixed MP3 issue for HDD playback
9. Better response to touchscreen input
10. Different graphical displays for HDD capacity and copying to HDD

Does the battery drain fix mean earlier cars no longer need the updated can bus?
