Moving to Spain, Taking my car
« on: February 29, 2016, 04:16:09 pm »
Hi guys , its been a while, hope everyones good .  :happy2:

So I'm moving to Spain and taking the car with me,   :jumpmove::driver:

anyone registered a car in Spain before or have any advice, i roughly know the process and will have my uncle to help out a bit. but would appreciate to hear from anyone whose been threw it already.

So i need to get a Certificate of Conformity - is the only way of obtaining one by paying around 70£ ?  and who to ?

any advice on insuring a RHD car in Spain

also i bought some xenon look headlights made by hella, will i have to replace with LHD units or are they "switchable"

thanks

hi Dazza ,

going to A Coruna , got a ferry booked to Bilbao, towards end of the month.

So how long can you keep your car in Spain with ENG plates?

what about insurance, surely if I'm over there for the majority of the year id have to register it there  ?

is it really easier just to drive back ?

I think its 6th months before you have to register it. But going by most of my neighbours who have been here permanently for years and still have the UK plates a lot of people don't.

The police keep telling me i have to swap my british driving license for a Spanish one, but i'd rather not as i don't think they can put points on a UK licence.

sounds risky ...

i appreciate "everyone does it"  & if i thought i could get away with it i might, but with my luck theres no chance.
and i know for a fact "but everyone does it" won't hold up in court

one police stop will uncover the cars got no MOT and therefor no TAX and therefor NO INSURANCE,

every journey out in the car could be the one it gets impounded.  :sad1:

i couldn't live like that  :signLOL:

Think most people here have MOT, Tax and insurance. So they must be popping back to the UK once a year.

You have 6 months to work it all out. Good luck with the move.

Nice to have another member in Spain. Only 10 hours drive from Barcelona.
