with having an early mk5, fitting one would give you battery drain problems, so you would need to update/upgrade your canbus. The only other thing you will need is an aerial adaptor, your original has 2x seperate connectors, but the RCD510 has a single twin connector, you can either buy the adaptor cable, or customise your existing connector so it will fit.

Other than these it is a straight fit.

You gather the details off your old canbus on vcds, remove old one, put new one in and  program the new one according to the info from old canbus..no need for adapters.

It can be a pain to take it out though. Especially in a manual car as clutch is in the way

You could employ the services of EddieNL from this forum who could do all this for you for a reasonable price.

Or..
Look at the Dynavin N6 VW
Or the blaupunkt 835
Both are high quality plug & play without the ball ache- (currently saving for a N6 after trying various units & being disappointed.

Sorry to jump in on this, so if I were to use a pre-coded canbus on an 05, I can fit an RS510?

Is there a cutoff point for needing the updated canbus? My car is a 57 plate GTI and I am considering fitting an RCD510 (non DAB) and an Aux/USB.

Thanks for the help. And sorry to jump on your thread  :happy2:

Should be OK. My 07 is fitted with rcd510 DAB ,no battery drain. Sure the part number of the gateway ends with a K or later  Sure someone can clarify this for you :happy2:

Brilliant. Cheers for that, I will wait and hear from the experts  :drinking:

Is there a difference in the units that I see on eBay that are from Chinese sellers as opposed to uk versions?
