I think you'll find Toyo have just bumped the price up quite a lot - so have a look at some alternatives that are the same, if not cheaper.

Kumho's are very well suited to heavy cars.

Mine arrive on the 13th along with the new wheels..

they ain't the cheapest for toyo but they sell these hankook track tyres for £100 per corner which has got me tempted

Not very clued up on good rubber. If the R888,s are 1st choice, what else could i look at that will give me good dry grip and acceptable wet performance. I don,t want something that only has a 3 or 4000mile shelf life either.

R888's are the cheapest way to get a decent amount of grip on the road, but they are by no means the best out there.. I find the sidewall support on the R888 pretty crappy to be honest, but that works on the 1/4 which is why im choosing them..

If you want a serious tyre go for the Dunlop, but bare in mine there almost double the price, but you get what you pay for..

I got about 6k from mine which I think is pretty good really.. That was with 3 drag days, and running almost 3 degrees negative camber on the road..

If they're for a daily hack, then you're throwing money away running R888s TBH as you'll race through them.. you're hardly exploring the limits of grip on the drag to the office and back in rush hour!

If you went for the medium hard compound they'll probably last a bit longer but kuhmo seem to get good reviews and quite a few different compunds to choose from and isnt there a new toyo tyre which is a compromise between track and road coming out soon. I wouldnt mind some for the road this summer (not really the weather for them now imo) but like you bit stuck on compound and maybe 6-8k miles would be nice.

Besides i thought you said no more mods this year, i think you could class r888s as a mod.

I need 4 new tyres this month so i thought i would see if there is a genuine option for me. It does only get used on the road at the minute, so i was just seeing if there is anything that would offer more dry grip over the RE050A,s i have on at present but still return acceptable mileage.

I ran them last year in very cold conditions.. Still a ton more grip than any other 'summer' type tyre.. Wet grip is huge.. The only issue comes with standing water, but you just drive to the conditions..
