Hi Raz, it's the same problem I've been having with the steering angle sensor (I've made a couple of posts about it).

Had it in at the dealers, who thought it was the clock Spring...it wasn't. Then they said it's either the steering column control module or the wiring. Each costs around £500 but they can't give a refund if I choose one and it's wrong.....what an odd way to run a business. I'm not a f*uckin* game show. Pick one and hope it's right. Oh and they managed to damage my steering wheel.

I'd ask for you to have a look, Raz, but you're all the way down south. I'm up in Leeds.

Just had a read through, what plate is your car?

Sounds like maybe your abs pump might be on its way out.

Earlier golfs were known for faulty pumps

Car is a 2007 '07'. Are there any other symptoms of the ABS pump going? When I'm in the ABS module, it occasionally throws me out and I just get errrors when reading measuring blocks. Could be because my VCDS comp is a bit slow.

Any ideas as to what I could log on VCDS to check which module is at fault? The fault is stored in the ABS and steering assist module.

Yeah if you're in the abs module and its giving you problems then it could be the pump module playing up. Refurbished unit is around £120 from bba reman without fitting.

I would try a few more times in abs measuring blocks to see if it reads anything or throws you out again. Maybe capture a clip on your phone and upload here to show us.

That's a shame. He was one of the most knowledgeable people on the MK5 and he was right on my doorstep.

Generally I'm in the ABS module without an issue. I'm leaning towards the steering wheel module. Just been in the car now and CAN always reads steering angle as 0.00. Whereas the ABS module and Steering Assist read the numbers fine (when the fault is not happening).

That would be a good point too. Cheap steering module would be a tenner from ebay.

Previous owner said it started happening when he put on winter wheels.

It initialises, gets the basics settings then forgets them a second later, or a day later.

All speed sensors read fine, but the speed encoder error on each wheel is 65535. No idea if that's normal or not?
