Owned both cars myself

Golf is a fantastic all round car as you will no from owning one

The focus... Well there fast! And sound insane but be prepared for high fuel bills. You'll be lucky to see anything over 20 mpg.
The build quality isn't bad. If your tuning then anything beyond 320-330 bhp you will need the "block mod" doing. If your running that power then you'll need a focus rs clutch (around £900 supplied and fitted).

They don't feel as comfortable as the golf, finding a decent one can be hard as a lot of them have been hammered.

Owned both and to be honest I preferred the focus. Better driving position, better noise and very well built. As above the fuel economy is awful I never seen more than 30mpg doing 60mph over 40 miles. I would be happy with either cars everyone needs a change

Ford's are too expensive to mod and you see less gains unlike the gti tfsi

I got a deal on a Collins performance upgrade when I had my focus.

Colin's is about 15 miles from me.

The car already had a scorpion cat back when I got it so I fitted a decat and allied Collins, they did me an airtec intercooler, enclosed intake kit, fitting of the two parts including silicone hoses (I also could choose the colour) stage 2 mapping software for £1000 all in. That took the car to 316bhp but my clutch literally started slipping straight away and riverside racing supplied and fitted an rs clutch for £850.

To get over 300bhp on a mk5 gti you'll need a k04 turbo. Costs could roughly be the same for similar power on both cars but I think the golf feels more reliable at that power. I'm not saying it is but to me the tfsi engine feels like it can cope better

You got lucky lol

I've alway found ford to be  :stupid: priced when it comes to performance parts. Maybe the golf is the same but you can find bargains if you look where as ford parts

I had a stage 2 focus ST before. As already said they are awful on fuel, I used to get 22mpg on a run and 15 in town
Get it mapped and fit an exhaust and you won't believe how good it sounds and goes. (I still miss the sound of that 5 pot)
The Block mod & rs clutch are vital for anything over stage 1 and an intercooler will certainly help in the warmer weather - common problem.
I don't know much about the mountune packs but I ran the revo map for 10k and it was flawless, torque like you wouldn't believe. It was just as quick as my mates RS.

Mountune have a good filter system and they're bloody loud as I was about to remove one off of a mk2 st at my previous employment but the salesman the bas**** kept it for the new keeper. shame the car wasn't quick I I would have thought as it had a similar issue like my dsg golf with the filter on from what I noticed. Filter pipe went all the way from turbo down to the front into the college from what I could see.

St's aren't cheap mind, £7-8000k cheapest as I was looking into buying one before I realised it was a 2.5 fuel thirsty car. 2.5 for no reason at all IMHO  :stupid:

Be careful Alex as even dealers rip ypu off when seeking a car knowing there are faults. Gti 4500k sounds good if you've got loads of issues with it.

My mates has a mk2 st and it's good but apart from the noise it doesn't really do much for me, crazy on fuel when you consider it's only 222bhp, paint peels like mad, feels cheaper to me, looks don't do much for me either unless it's the face lift.

But after saying that I'm looking for a mk2 rs to scratch my itch but after that il be returning to a golf r, after 3 golfs in a row just fancy a change.

But for me gti mk5 v focus st mk2, golf wins for me it's a better car and I'm no fan boy

Looks nice Alex, also looks like it's bumpers aren't perfectly aligned and possible damage.

If you do go and have a look at it then use a fine tooth comb attitude.  :happy2:

Good luck
