I'd ring VW and ask what they recommend personally.

Everyone knows what VW recommends, there are about 100 threads on this board about it in the last few months alone. If his garage says it's good for 100k miles then why not accept that?

I'm really as I'm on 71k and counting but no sign of the belt ever being done  need some extra pocket money for this job and if the belt snaps then bye bye tfsi

@ConorGTI bought the belt kit and water pump last week and awaiting delivery from a member. soon as it comes I'll get on it one weekend. You're right as I don't fancy saying bye bye gti.

Not sure if you phoned VW but officially it's recommend every 40,000 miles or every 4 years (5 after September 2009, doesn't affect the GTI as it went to chain), whichever is sooner.

@Ditto mine is a 55 reg late November although it's good practice to replace every 40-50k and I'm on it now. thanks

Mines has been done twice (2005/05) First at VW 34,000miles, then again at 62,000miles by an independent, however from receipts the water pump was replaced due to leaking, and theres a leak from up there again so VW say.

I wish I could, it was done by the previous owner, and the garage is in Bradford, I'm in Glasgow lol
