Potholes!!! 2 damaged tyres in 3 days
« on: March 12, 2016, 11:09:11 am »
Ruined 2 tyres and bent a wheel in 3 days this week in my car

Wednesday night I hit one and didn't think anything of it so I didn't stop but the next morning I found this..

Bulge and flat spot on the wheel

Got the tyre changed and planned to have the wheel refurbished this week..

Then driving home last night I hit another one!! on the other side this time though.

Just the tyre this time it seems.

tracking feels out as well now. a good £4-500 down the drain (no pun intended)

That's a nasty one. Are they currently repairing / resurfacing the road? If so did they put signs up?

That is crap, I hit one the other day but touch wood nothing seemed damaged.

If there are no signs up about work happening there and if not repaired yet, go and take pics of the potholes, even stick an object in the hole to show depth of the hole. Then take pics of your damage with time and date it happened and then register a complaint with your local council

Damn fella, sorry to see this. That pothole looks f*cking terrible. I hope you manage to get compensation for this.

Yep put a claim in. Why should you be out of pocket for this?

Yes I'm going to claim although I've not got a photo of the first pothole yet. I need to go back and find it but its a bit of a way away.

Is it £300 or so pounds away?  :signLOL:

Things like this pi** me off. There are so many potholes around Leeds. Worse still are the drain covers that are a foot deep. The GTI's suspension is strong, because I've hit so many of them with massive thuds into the cabin, but no apparent damage.

This is why I slalom course drive whenever I can so long as I have no traffic around me.
Roads are in appealing state in most places in the UK now.

That's just unforgivable. No way should you be paying road tax and then having to pay for repairs. Nasir put it well - it's a ball ache, but if the ball ache means you get reimbursed for the cost then it's simply got to be chased.

I'm well trained in a way when it comes to potholes and dodgy surfaces; my old mk4 was ridiculously low on coilovers so I'm now used to scanning the road as I drive. Hardly ideal though. We should be absorbing info and hazards from as far in front as possible. Not focusing 20 yards in front of us.

But when you don't know the road like the back of your hand things like this happen.

Get on to the council and give them hell. In fact, I'm sure there's some register or something online where you can record potholes, their location, any damage done etc. Then you can approach the council with other occurences of the same pothole causing issues along with your own. Bit of a 'strength in numbers' thing.

Best of luck mate.

I report some potholes using Fixmystreet.co.uk

But no, this is too mainstream and easy for Leeds City Council. You must log on to their sh*tty website and do it.

I swear I didn't even notice potholes in my old MK5 diesel. In this, I notice every crevice in the road. I curse violently when I hit one, which happens at least a couple of times in the day. People must think I'm a lunatic from the outside. But they do feel incredibly harsh in the GTI.
