BBS Alloy touch up colour ?
« on: January 08, 2010, 08:19:34 pm »
Folks,
I have a couple of alloys with slight kerb marks on them, not enough in my opinion to have the whole wheel refurbed.
They are silver BBS CH's , Anyone on here managed to get a paint stick / spray to match the colour of these wheels ??

I phoned PWmotorsport today and spoke to phil, he said to try some of the modelshops and pick up a humbrol one to match. Thats fair enough but im sure there will probably be 100 different shades of silver to chose from

I belive VW do a paint stick to match the standard edition 30 alloy wheel,  (L 009 104 i think), are these the same colour as a bbs CH ??

Anyone had any joy getting a match before ?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

^im pretty sure VW dont do a touch up pen for them, the colour is very hard to match because if you get to may coats its to dark, some people have had touch ups done but i have yet to see one that i would be happy with (im fussy though)

The problem is our wheel colour is neither silver or anthracite its in between, BBS do it but you have to buy it at some expensive price if i recall correctly. A few guys here have tried to get stuff made up.
I went to chips away who advised they wouldn't exactly match it but could get as close so you wouldn't notice unless you were staring them in the face. Or get a full respray done on all of them with your own colour code.

I phoned chips away lad in aberdeen, sounds like a good way forward, 130 pounds to get my two wheels done. As soon as the roads are a bit better i will be taking it through to him.

Cheers
Kev.

Middle of last year I was quoted £60 a wheel and the guy has set up by his self now. But your right once all this snow and crud has gone it has to be done before the wheel starts corroding.

Im on my third day of detailing now, car has been clayed, polished and angelwax'd, looking very very good i have to say  :jumpmove:

Onto my third alloy now, these take a lot of time to wash, t-cut off the crud, polish then a good seal with the bilberry wheel wax, it is taking me nearly 2 hours per wheel but the results are well worth it

First time i have used the clay and was really impressed with the results, car looks better than new, just those pescy kerb marks to get sorted out  :star:

You may find using aggressive clay on the backs of the wheels in stead of T Cut will be easier, safer and save some time ?  :happy2:

Took the bull by the horns and had a crack at a repair job of my alloys myself today, went into halfords and got some fine wet and dry emery paper and a paint stick for alloy wheels.  Spent a fair bit of time smoothing out the scraped bit of the outer rim and then carefully hand painted in the bare bits, the result is that the 2 wheels albeit perfect are 1000% better than they were and without looking very closely, hard to tell they had kerb damage at all.  Quite chuffed with my effort and just saved myself the guts of £150 to get the wheels professionally repaired.

Now, just the clutch to replace and i'm laughing  :driver:
