Wing warranty wait for it.........Success [emoji1303]
« on: March 23, 2016, 02:22:19 pm »
You read right !

So as we all know the dreaded wing rust is a problem for most MK5 owners and mine sadly to say is no different.

Unfortunately and more annoyingly my local VW (Tamworth) does not do warranty work. So after finding out one of my staffs brother works for VW Coventry and a quick txt turns out they may be the ones for the job

So I rang them on Monday and booked the Eddy in for an assessment for today. Dragging the pregnant wife over to Cov with the promise of Cinema and Nachos off I set fingers crossed.

Upon arriving at the body shop I was greeted  by a really nice guy who told us to take a seat as he fetched us a brew. 10 minutes later the warranty assessor turned up looking pretty miserable so I wasn't hoping for much.

Out we went to look over the Eddy conversation was minimal to say the least. After 30 minutes checking the paint depth and taking more photos than a Chinese tourist back inside we went.

After waiting 10-15 minutes for the assessor to complete paperwork and look through my service history he returned. In his words        " the blistering around the wings is not covered under the 12 year warranty" As you can imagine I wasn't feeling pleased at this moment and was about to unleash a well thought out speech when he said
"However we will cover this issue under a GOOD WILL GESTURE policy"
Happy days !!!!! So as long as your service history is up to date and they can see you take care of your car seems it is covered

Long story short I am booking the Eddy in to get both front wings replaced and painted FOC. They did say it would be £80 per wing to have the paint blended into the doors if I wanted however this was a choice and could decide after the wings are done.  We will see if this is needed.

As you can imagine I'm very happy with the result after reading so many stories of warranty failures. Can't recommend them enough. So if you live in the midlands area or are willing to travel might be worth giving them a try.

Good luck thanks for reading

I had both wings replaced at VW Listers in Coventry. Couldn't fault them.  I didn't have the wings blended and the paint match is spot on.

Cheers I'm gonna see what it looks like after being Tornado Red but don't really fancy shelling out £160 plus vat since the wings are foc

:sad1: the wings have been sprayed previous
they first tried to fob me off with 10 years warranty on Al paint work and when I slapped 12 years in their face and it's on the vw website they changed their minds untill the guy showed me the speckles in the corners barely visible as I didn't look myself.

Gutted for you mate. VW UK really are quite poor in comparison to other countries!
USA got 10yr warranties on the gearboxes and VW Germany were doing goodwill on failed Air con compressors. We are lucky if they stick to the factory 12yr paint warranty...  :fighting:

@Trow81 great news. I had my wings done there too and they were blistering. Couldn't fault them. I didn't have mine blended and it's spot on!
