RCD 510 DAB problem
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:42:02 pm »
I've fitted a 510 head unit with a Calearo aerial and the correct adaptor. I've fitted a new gateway coded to suit, but the DAB is finding almost no signal at all - occasionally it will pick up a station but it only lasts a second before the no signal icon appears. I've had aftermarket DAB in a few cars now with great success, so it can't be a lack of signal. Any suggestions please?

For anyone interested, disconnected the aerial power lead and it's now working perfectly. WTF ?

A bit of thread resurrection here  :signLOL:
I just resolved exactly this issue with my DAB radio. I had a Calearo antenna with poor reception and went through the mill with it trying to sort it out. I even spent 2 hours with my friendly Sextons branch trying to get it to work properly.

I never got to the bottom of it but only last weekend I fitted a Hirschmann antenna and the difference is profound. They're not even close. On a route where I would have 6 or more drop outs I now get none. Totally different beast. I used a one few years ago on a Subaru with a Philips head unit and that worked flawlessly too. Bought mine from Dab on Wheels.

No idea why but these Calearo antennas are no good our cars. Bizarre, but there it is.  :rolleye:

The Calaero has been perfect since I last posted - I live in north Wales and rarely loose reception. I really only bought this particular aerial because it was factory though, I've had good results with different ones on other cars.

That's good news obviously,  but in what state is the antenna functioning now? Is it's amplifier being powered or is it working as a passive antenna?
